Avoid These 3 Drain Clogging Culprits

We have all experienced a clogged drain before and know how frustrating it can be.  And, not only frustrating but costly as well!  But, there are many ways to avoid common drain clogs and thus avoid the frustration and expense.  Below are 3 common drain clogging culprits and how to avoid them.  If you do still experience a drain, it is best to call a professional plumber that has experience and knowledge as to how to safely and effectively clear your drain clog and get normal flow restored.

1. Grease

Grease may be the #1 culprit of all clogs, it is so incredibly common and so very avoidable.  Any type of cooking grease that starts in liquid form but hardens when it cools should not go down your sink drain.  While we know it is one less step and seems like it is no big deal, trust us, it is a big deal.  While you may not get an immediate clog from putting kitchen grease down your drain, trust us, it is building up in there and it will be a problem eventually.  Pour kitchen grease into an old can or other container and then throw that container away once it is cooled.

2. Certain Types of Food

While the garbage disposal is a great place to dispose of certain foods, other foods should never be put down the drain.  Foods that should go into the trash can rather than down the drain include coffee grounds, eggshells, pasta, rice, potatoes, beans, celery, corn, asparagus, onion skin, and artichokes.

3. Cosmetic and Feminine Products

That wipe you just used to clean off your makeup may seem so thin it is fine to just flush it but don’t!  Don’t put towels, towelettes, wipes, baby wipes, paper towels, feminine products or anything else besides toilet paper and waste down your toilet!  Even if it claims to be flushable, it is best to avoid putting anything down the drain that is not toilet paper.
