Every home has probably experienced a slow drain, clog, or debris buildup in their plumbing.  There are many different ways to clear a drain, some that are more effective than others.  Some methods are all natural, relatively non-invasive and may remove some small buildup happening in your drain while other methods may be necessary to tackle larger clogs or plumbing problems.  Hydro jetting is a plumbing cleaning and service method that can effectively remove clogs, debris and buildup in your plumbing.

What is Hydro Jetting?

While the typical way to clear a difficult plumbing clog may have always been to snake it, there are alternative methods, such as hydro jetting, that are superior in certain circumstances.  Angie’s List explains how hydro jetting works, “Hydrojetting is the process of using a high-pressured flow of water to scour the interior surfaces of the plumbing pipes, removing scale, grease and other debris that’s built up inside the pipe walls over time. As opposed to rodding, where a plumber uses a tool to power a hole through the buildup, hydrojetting achieves a comprehensive cleaning of the pipes…Accessing a cleanout, an area of the plumbing system that allows a specialist to easily gain access to the pipes, the plumber inserts a hose that’s connected to a tank of water. The hose can withstand the high-pressured water that’s sent into the pipes, and a specialized machine pressurizes water from the tank. The plumber should have the expertise to deliver the right water pressure for the problem at hand, which varies depending on the condition of the pipes.”

How Does Hydro Jetting Work?

Because the water is blasted at such a high velocity, it can effectively remove debris and buildup within the plumbing.  .Hydro jetting can effectively remove a variety of debris types and substances, including grease and food particle buildup.  While snaking pipes only breaks up the clogs, it does not completely clean and remove all buildup and substances from the pipes but hydro jetting does.  Because no chemicals are used, it is also an environmentally friendly method of pipe cleaning and maintenance.  While hydro jetting is a relatively safe means of plumbing clog removal, it should only be conducted by an experienced and knowledgeable plumber to avoid potentially damaging plumbing with incorrect procedures.
